My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I absolutely loved 13 Minutes, a YA thriller (if you’re not into YA, don’t let that put you off, as this book, if you like thrillers, is not worth missing) about the aftermath of the ‘it’ girl being pulled from an icy river, dead for 13 minutes. The ‘it’ girl, Tasha, is the Queen Bee of The Barbies, a trio of bitchy girls who rule the sixth form. Tasha can’t remember how she got in the river, did someone push her? Enter Becca, an ex-friend of Tasha, who runs eagerly back into Tasha’s life (even though Becca wouldn’t admit the eager bit) and she helps her old friend find out what happened to her.
13 Minutes captures the bitchy world of the sixth form perfectly, there are twists and turns and I could not put this book down. It’s a rare book of Sarah Pinborough’s I don’t like but this one is definitely up there with my favourite one of hers, The Death House and if you’ve read and loved her recent Behind Her Eyes, which everyone is raving about, you’ll love this too.
